One of my favorite groups growing up was David Gates and Bread - such a mellow (no pun intended!) group and they had a lot of top songs but my favorite, especially now that I have a daughter, is simply called "Daughter." So this is dedicated to my daughter, Nicole. :)
Daughter - don't give your love to the first man you see.
Just bide your time so your heart will be free to find the one,
Girl you don't have to run.
Daughter - don't think that love has gone out of style,
Just some folks every once in a while don't understand
How this world was planned.
Now I know you're wondering how
You know when the real thing is comin' your way,
When you live for him and not you
You'll know that it's truly comin' to stay.
Daughter - I know it's hard to make yourself wait,
But when the right man comes it's never too late
So don't you cry ,
He'll be here by and by... and steal your heart away.
Although that was probably one not too many of you have heard, I bet you have heard this one:

No I haven't heard it; it's not on Best of Bread, an album that everyone over the age of 45 owns. I'm also kindof keen on The Babys, and America, etc. Lot of really great mellow 70's stuff. Thanks for the memories.
nice. like the lyrics. saw the band on ladycat's post and i dont remember them so definitely looking them up now.
Good choice. Bread was probably better than we knew at the time. Neither of these songs is dated. They still work.
Aww...haven't heard their music in ages...now I'm feeling old!
Wondered who would do the band for this theme! Great choice, and a great choice of song from them. Great lyrics and a cool dedication!
David Gates and Bread? Is this the precursor to the band that would just be simply "Bread" later on?
I had that album that had the song, "Lost Without Your Love" and I must have played the record until the grooves wore out. (Mooning over some boy, I'm sure.)
I have been a fan for 40 years and made Bread my TT topic as well.
great post--'if' is one of those songs that I listened to a million times--your daughter is a lucky girl-best c
Bread are still touring!
Nice take on the theme.
Didn't know this one. Great lyrics!
Thank you
I love me some Bread, solidifying the assertion that I am indeed the oldest 38 year old on earth...
