Theme Thursday - Mirror

When I look in the mirror I do not like what I see. I see someone who has a lot of weight to lose. I see someone whose face has more and more wrinkles every day, yet, I still get pimples. How is that fair? I see someone who has crazy curls, who needs a haircut and who needs to color up some grays. I see a jutting chin and a bulb nose and no symmetry to my face.

When I look in the mirror I see someone who doesn’t look like my father or my mother. Where did I come from? Who knows? My mother always thought it was funny to say I was the “milkman’s” because I didn’t resemble my brothers and sisters. Now that we are adults, we all resemble each other…so my fear of not having the same parents is moot.

When I look in the mirror I see a 45 year old woman who has to lose a lot of weight, has more and more wrinkles every day, has pimples on occasion, has crazy curls, who needs a haircut, who needs to color up some grays, who has a jutting chin and a bulb nose and no symmetry to the face, but, if I don’t look in the mirror, I’m none of those things.

There is a lot of truth in what you say. But perhaps mirrors are only any good for showing what is on the surface.

Well, I love the surface, each wrinkle and every curl. They are the beautiful outside to a beautiful inside and I wouldn't trade any single one for anything.

You are more beautiful than you give yourself credit for...Your husband is right, and beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.

I doubt your friends and family see any of that. Mirrors...they always lie!

Nice finale, well done!

Mirrors are evil.

But do you see what I see? A writer with so much more than meets the eye. The sum of all the parts is greater than the whole...

Sometimes, the best mirror I’ve got is the look in my daughter’s eyes.

this is true! my husband loves to remind me not to keep looking in the mirror expecting to see the twenty or thirty something I was once was and to stop being disappointed.

When you look into a mirror, you should see a woman who overcame her hesitance to write, and now shares liberally with an eager following.
