Goodnight Moon
I have three children, although my oldest is now 25 and married. I had never heard of Goodnight Moon until I married and had 2 more children. My husband loved the book and every night he or I would read books to the kids and always ended with that one. Now that they are 11 and almost 14, the days of reading to them at night have long since gone; but I can still quote from the book...
In the great green room
there was a telephone
and a red balloon
and a picture of
the cow jumping over the moon
and there were three little bears sitting on chairs
and two little kittens
and a pair of mittens
and a little toy house
and a young mouse
and a comb and a brush and a bowl full of mush
and a quiet old lady whispering "hush"
Goodnight room
Goodnight moon
Goodnight cow jumping over the moon
Goodnight light and the red balloon
Goodnight bears and goodnight chairs
Goodnight kittens and goodnight mittens
Goodnight clocks and goodnight socks
Goodnight little house and goodnight mouse
Goodnight comb and goodnight brush
Goodnight nobody goodnight mush
and goodnight to the old lady whispering "hush"
Goodnight stars, goodnight air
Goodnight noises everywhere.
A simple theme and a favorite memory.

That is a great post!
I remember those days, too. Seems like they flew by now.
Still love the book. Hope they remember it when they have kids of their own.
And I like that their is a Halloween-satire version, called "Goodnight Goon" and it is well written, too! :)
I truly love this little book. Me too--never heard of it until i read it to my kids. i just came across it again at at bookstore and loved reading it once more. bought back so many memories of simple, sweeter times.
Missed that one, well after my and my daughters' youths, but it reminds me mightily of the Christopher Robin rhymes.
I VAGUELY remember this one. Quit trying to work my memory, you! My brain hurts enough as it is!
Such sweet memories. My eldest son is going to graduate this year and my mind is pulling every childhood memory that I can muster just to hold on just a bit longer. I like this post.
I will have to use this one for my daughter as well, thank you.
I love that book too. It's the one I buy for new babies.
I miss reading to my children, now that they are grown. I will look forward to grandchildren one day (but not yet!)
I missed this one, but have known so many picture books off by heart. I love reading aloud. I love the rhythms of many childrens' books.
nice memories :)
my boys loved good night moon...
I love that book! I actually never knew of it until I had children of my own and someone gave it to me.
Wonderful reference and I love this book so very much. I think my sons love it as well, a sweet childhood memory.
