Theme Thursday - Over the Hill

Over the hill

I am 44. For the better part of 25 years, I've considered this particular age to be "the end." You see, my father died at the young age of 44. My older brother and sister have both gone beyond "the end" and I now have minimal doubts that I will as well (especially since my birthday is in 3 months). Once I hit my next birthday I'll feel more comfortable with the prospect of future birthdays. Would I even consider myself "over the hill"? Nope - not yet! I have a lot of life left in me - I'm going to go with considering 80 to maybe be over the hill...and 100 to be running down the other side!

My mother believed she would die in her early sixties as did her mother. She did not relax until her mother's older sister died at 82. My mother died at 81 and fully enjoyed her life.

Don't worry. Be happy! :)

As you know, one of my grandmother's said, every year from age 50 on, "this is it, won't be here much longer...". Yeah, she died at age 92.

I can understand the trepidation and I will be happy for you, too, on the next birthday. Not a hill you are going over, more like a milestone. :)

Live for now, don't worry about the then.

may your next couple months pass quickly so you will be free to chase 80 or 100.

Well my husband died at 35 so any year above that is a bonus in my eyes. Wishing you longevity and happiness! And happy birthday next month. Mine too . . I'll be 53

You know, when I was younger I was convinced that I wouldn't see 25. At the time, that seemed like a pivotal age and I couldn't envision a future for myself. Even if I had been able to, it probably wouldn't have been the one I have now. Interesting.

When you blow out those birthday candles next year I hope that you can also blow away a lot of that anxiety with it!

Ravyn, my Pop was gone at 56 and his Mom at 89. Not allowing for a cousin at 38( I'm near 42 now ), I use that as a type of marker. If I make it past the first, I'll feel a bit better about the in-between years, on my way to the second one. Good food for thought and Happy TT :)
